SCUBA gear can be very pricey, IF you don't do your homework. Researching for the right gear is essential in finding the gear you need. Talk to your dive buddies about what they use or have used. What they like or don't like about things they have tried.
Leisure Pro is one of the biggest dealers in all things SCUBA. Their search engine is easy to use, with everything from full packages to replacement parts. One of the best features on this site for me is the user reviews. This is very helpful in hearing what previous buyers have liked or disliked about an item you are considdering. Let their experience (and money) be helpful in making your decision. Sample of a package they offer:
Here is a sample of the reviews on Leisure Pro: Comments about Tusa Platina Evolution BCD, Black (BCJ-3860): Great BC. A little on the heavier end like a couple other reviews said, but it makes up for it in all it's little features. Has clips and rings in all the right places, air-dump pull-strings, very secure weight-holding system (so you won't lose your weights), and a carrying/hanging-in-closet handle! I would recommend getting some ID-badge clips like the ones shown in the attached image though, as the inflate/deflate hose will dangle freely otherwise. These badge clips are amazing for holding it against your BC for streamlining, while at the same time NOT limiting its use and function. Diving Type: Cave Diving, Night Diving, Open Water Diving, Wreck Diving Was this a gift?: No Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend And last but certainly not least
Yes, Craigslist. This is a tricky one and you MUST use your best judgement. Don't be afraid to ask a fellow diver to go look at the equipment with you. Two sets of eyes are better than one. Think about it there are MANY people out there who go zero to a hundred and buy top of the line gear before they even get certified. then after a year or two they have only gone diving once. They are left with a lot of gear just sitting and they need to recoup something. We got Lori's ScubaPro Ladyhawk BC on CL and paid about 15% of the listed price. The owner had been diving with it on one trip and it had been used in the ocean maybe 2-3 times. It was by all means brand new and a great find.
So before you break out the credit card and get over anxious. Do your research and take your time.
